IATA (International Air Transport Association, IATA, referred to as “IATA”) yesterday (17) told reporters that the EU carbon emissions trading scheme for formally implemented on January 1 this year, the organization continues to call on all parties under the coordination of the ICAO in order to achieve a global solution. At the same time, the industry believes that the integrated use of biofuels, including new technologies, new measures, the future is fully capable to achieve emission reduction targets of the aviation industry.

With the formal implementation of the EU carbon tax, all flights out of the 27 EU member states are required to pay an additional sum of aviation carbon tax. The EU has led to strong protests from the United States, China, Russia and other major global economies. The end of 2009, the U.S. Air Transport Association and three American Airlines, the EU imposed an aviation carbon tax violation of the Convention on International Civil Aviation sued the European Union. But by the end of 2011, the highest judicial body of the European Union – European Court of Justice dismissed the lawsuit. For dissatisfaction with the unilateral EU carbon emissions tax, a number of non-EU countries are planning to use similar modes of taxation to counter the EU.

IATA believes that the aviation industry to bring huge economic and social benefits for the global, the collection of aviation “carbon tax” will reduce the economic, trade and competitiveness, the direct impact and the threat of 10 million with the airline industry is directly related to or dependent on the survival of the airline industry Tourism jobs.

IATA said that to understand the dissatisfaction of the non-EU countries, but also do not want to see the staged taxes and competition in international flights between the different regions. IATA recommendations related to non-EU airlines to protest at the same time, to prepare response plans with governments together under ICAO coordination with the EU to return to the negotiating table with the special global agreement to eventually avoid these lead to distortions of competition tax and fee.

Energy-saving emission reduction targets for 2009 to develop the aviation industry, aviation industry, fuel efficiency an average annual growth of 1.5% to 2020; to achieve carbon neutral growth since 2020; 2050 (compared with 2005) to reduce carbon emissions by half , IATA think the above objectives through the use of new technologies, more efficient operations, improve infrastructure and positive economic measures to achieve. Such as the new Boeing 787 has been put into transportation services, compared to the previous models fuel savings of 20%. Future commercial development of biofuels will continue to reduce the carbon emissions of the aviation industry, such as Air China Limited (Air China Limited, referred to as “Air China”) has successfully completed China’s first aviation sustainable biofuels test flight, which is the industry seen as a starting point for biofuels in the aviation large-scale commercial.
